Tri County Airport Authority gives annual update, cites $5 million economic impact

Danny Exum, representing the Tri County Airport Authority, presented the airport’s annual update to the Washington County Board and provided operational and economic figures.
Exum said a study conducted about four years ago estimated the airport generated more than $5,000,000 per year in economic impact to the local economy. He cited published FAA figures showing an average of about 78 operations per day, noting many are military aircraft. He described the airport’s facilities — a 5,398‑foot runway, a certified helipad, tie‑downs and both shade and enclosed hangars — and said the property is approximately 304 acres with the south portion open for development if a compatible company is found.
Exum described recent projects (electrical vault upgrades) and near‑term improvements under design or consideration, including future hangar site improvements, stormwater work, perimeter fencing and water‑tank/hydrant upgrades. He invited board members to the second annual Tri County Economic Meeting on April 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the airport and noted the keynote speaker will be Brad Kimbrough of Wiregrass Electric Cooperative.
No formal vote occurred during the workshop; Exum answered questions from commissioners and staff and offered to provide additional information if requested.
