Presenters asked the Washington County Board to approve a second amendment to the county’s broadband agreement to explicitly incorporate grant requirements and align construction milestones with the Florida Broadband Opportunity Program.
The county’s presenter said the amendment would “clearly define the remaining tasks and obligations necessary to complete the project” and align performance milestones with grant‑funded construction. He said phases one and two are complete and the amendment covers the remaining work.
Staff reported that of 784 eligible locations identified by the state, 189 had already been completed and that 399 residents have subscribed to the county’s WildStar service. Presenters said six towers are installed and the seventh (the Ganey tower) is under construction; they gave a project completion target of Sept. 30, 2026. One presenter said the state has approved the contract and that the state requested the amendment.
Board members and staff discussed difficulties identifying private property volunteers to host tower sites. A county staffer described the typical site as “a 30 by 30 foot space” plus a power pole to bring power to the tower and asked commissioners for county‑owned site suggestions.
No formal vote was recorded in the workshop; the board agreed to add the amendment to the consent agenda for consideration at next week’s regular meeting.
