Tolland manager praises storm response, outlines staffing moves; council adopts minutes and other routine votes

Town Manager used his report on Feb. 24 to thank volunteer fire and EMS personnel and public works staff for the town’s storm response and to update the council on personnel and programmatic matters.
"I wanna thank the volunteer, fire and EMS, for their service through the storms," the town manager said, noting volunteers stayed overnight at firehouses to keep ambulances available. He also praised DPW and said local businesses including Maria's Diner offered snacks to staff working extended shifts.
The town manager said hiring remains under way for an assistant finance director, an administrative position supporting the resident state trooper office and a part-time animal control officer. He also described ongoing sidewalk ADA litigation concerning access to the Veterans Memorial and said staff are exploring a transfer-station arrangement with neighboring Stafford to reduce roadside dumping and manage bulky-item disposal, noting the arrangement would require council approval if funding or formal commitment is necessary.
On routine business, the council adopted three sets of minutes (Feb. 9 capital budget public hearing; Feb. 10 special meeting; Feb. 10 regular meeting) after one correction to a councilor’s biographical detail was recorded. The council also approved the resolution to apply for an $873,000 Urban Action Grant for the animal control facility and voted to set a special meeting on March 3 to discuss potential state purchase of 303 Merrill Road.
