Planning commission backs landmark designation for Charles Howard Heumann House

The Planning Commission voted unanimously on March 3 to recommend the Charles Howard Heumann House at 2116 Ursline Avenue N for designation as a Galveston landmark.
Staff said the three‑story house (built 1923) is architecturally distinctive with Greek‑Revival features, brick columns and original backyard cistern, and that the property is eligible for financial incentives for landmarked properties. Applicant Gregory Sendejas, the owner’s grandson, described the family history and past fire damage and restoration. No opposing public comments were offered.
Staff will forward the commission’s recommendation and conditions to City Council, which has final authority to grant the designation.
