Mayor Zambo updates EMC on city hall/police expansion, public works and park projects

Zambo said the city hall and police department expansion project will kick off this summer and that early plans now call for moving all staff out of the building for about 18 months to allow an accelerated construction timeline; he estimated there are cost savings associated with that approach. "I think we're saving about a half $1,000,000 by having everybody out of the building and letting construction crews go wild with it," he said on the record.
He also reported the public works facility is nearing completion and that a public grand opening is expected in May, subject to winter operations being completed. The annual street reconstruction work will focus on the city's southern end, including rebuilding Greenway (from 7th Street toward I-94) and adding a 7-foot boulevard trail along Hudson Boulevard derived from the bike-and-pedestrian plan. Zambo said the council has approved replacement plans for three playgrounds (Tanners Lake Park, Gulfview, and Tower), with Tanner's Lake Park expected to be a larger project and targeted for completion in 2027; community engagement will be part of those designs.
Zambo said the EMC will be kept involved in planning related to parks and environmental efficiencies as project details are developed.
