The City of Lake Jackson council voted unanimously to move forward with a traffic commission recommendation to lower the speed limit in the Sleepy Hollow subdivision from 30 miles per hour to 25.
Council reviewed speed data presented by staff showing an 80th-percentile speed of about 26 mph with a small share of higher-speed outliers; staff said state law limits certain reductions but the local recommendation to 25 mph was supported by traffic-commission analysis. Councilman Schueller made the motion and Councilman Sanjana seconded; the council asked staff to prepare an ordinance and noted construction and street-layout changes could affect future speed evaluations.
Council discussed alternatives such as speed humps versus the posted limit and agreed to consider timing and public-notice requirements before final adoption. Staff said the ordinance will be drafted and returned for a future vote after the planning steps are complete.
