Kittitas County seeks $1.29 million HSIP award to improve Canyon Road corridor

Kittitas County Public Works told the Board of Commissioners that the county has been selected to receive $1,290,000 from the Highway Safety Improvement Program to fund corridor safety improvements on county roads.
Josh Frederickson, Public Works, said the project would fund design and construction of embedded LED markers, guideposts, edge-line rumble strips and similar roadway improvements. Frederickson asked the board to approve a resolution initiating county road project number 323-26 and to add the project to the statewide transportation system administered by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
Frederickson said the HSIP award can be a 100% match for the county if the funds are obligated and spent by April 3, 2028; he noted WSDOT administers the program. The presentation did not specify a construction schedule, exact roads to be improved beyond the corridor description, or required local project phases.
The request was presented as part of the consent materials; the board moved to approve the consent agenda and the Chair called the motion passed by voice vote.
If the board finalizes the resolution, the county will be assigned CRP number 323-26 and proceed with statewide project coordination and design steps under WSDOT rules.
