Board proclaims Flood Awareness Week and Irish American Heritage Month

At the start of the meeting the St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners adopted two proclamations by unanimous voice votes.
The board adopted Resolution 26-030 proclaiming March 9–15, 2026 as Flood Awareness Week in St. Lucie County. Planning and Development Services Director Ben Balser accepted the proclamation on behalf of staff and highlighted the county's participation in the National Flood Insurance Program and its Community Rating System (CRS) Class 5 status, which staff said currently provides a 25% reduction in flood insurance premiums for qualifying residents.
The board also adopted Resolution 26-031 proclaiming March 2026 as Irish American Heritage Month, a ceremonial recognition included on the agenda. Both proclamations were read into the record by staff and adopted by voice vote.
Both resolutions are ceremonial and do not create regulatory obligations; staff said the Flood Awareness Week proclamation is intended to promote public education about flood risk, preparedness and insurance options.
