Parks department reports winter preparations as nine new pickleball courts near completion

The committee heard an update on the new pickleball facility: the courts have been painted and the parking lot repaved, but final striping was pushed back by weather. "They were gonna do it on Monday...they were doing it today," Scott said, noting crews were scheduled to complete striping later in the week. A committee member confirmed there are nine courts at the site and said the height of the fencing should deter casual trespass.
Members discussed operational details for the courts, including possible quiet-hour rules and signage to manage times of play. Scott said the town will coordinate rules and post clear hours once they are finalized. Committee members suggested consulting neighboring towns' approaches to limit noise and asked staff to monitor usage once the courts open.
Committee members also reported condition items around specific parks: Salesville's new sign will likely be installed in spring because frozen ground could prevent winter installation; batting-cage netting and temporary fencing near the Salesville parking area have limited court access; and crews began leaf collection the day of the meeting. A committee member urged coordination with the schools to remove unsecured protective screens at softball fields, saying, "Maybe take them off for the winter and then put them back."
The director reported crews removed broken bench debris after reviewing camera footage, which showed a child jumping on the bench before it broke. Members praised recent building repairs and painting while asking staff to address a few remaining holes and to ensure rules are visible on new signage where practical.
Under old business the committee briefly touched on the Lincoln High School field plan; a member said the project remains on a longer timeline of a couple of years with no new details provided at the meeting.
The committee accepted the minutes earlier in the meeting and later moved to adjourn; there were no public commenters. The advisory committee did not take additional formal votes on projects or funding at this session.
