Charles Kite of the U.S. Small Business Administration's Office of Disaster Assistance told the Trinity County Board of Supervisors that the SBA has low‑interest disaster loan options available to residents, businesses, nonprofits and faith‑based organizations affected by the late‑December 2025 and January 2026 storms.
Kite described interest rates as roughly 4 percent (fixed) for businesses, about 2.62 percent for homeowners and approximately 3.625 percent for nonprofits, with terms up to 30 years on qualifying loans. He said approved loans have no payments and no interest in the first 12 months and that loans are based on substantiated losses. For businesses without physical damage but with disaster‑related working‑capital needs, the SBA's Economic Injury Disaster Loan is available.
Applications and more information are at lending.gov/disaster or by calling SBA customer service at 1‑800‑659‑2955. Kite said the deadline to apply for physical‑damage loans is April 6 and that economic‑injury applications have a deadline of November 3. The SBA also said a disaster recovery center is open at Redding City Hall for in‑person assistance.
