Council hears $400,000'$500,000 estimate for Shawano Avenue mill-and-pave; state reconstruction planned for 2031

Several council members said they were concerned the city would pay a substantial sum for a temporary fix on a road the state is responsible for maintaining. "The wheel tax generates around $2,000,000 a year, probably nets $1,000,000 a year after special-assessment deferments," Alder Johnson said, arguing the local share is significant for the city budget. Council members suggested further outreach to state representatives to seek support for a more permanent state-led reconstruction.
The Shawano Avenue item was presented as informational; no formal budget appropriation or motion to reallocate funds was recorded at the meeting.
