Members of the board approved a request from Miss Murphy of Bravado Academy to use an alternate salon as a temporary instructional location while repairs continue at the school’s long-term site.
Miss Murphy told the board the program has occupied the original location for about 15 years but experienced a severe septic backup on Sept. 1; subsequent remediation work and three additional pipe failures have made the site unsafe to resume clinical instruction. “It’s been almost 6 months,” Miss Murphy said, adding that students have completed theory work but need clinical hours to finish their programs.
The chair asked how far the temporary salon is from the school; Miss Murphy estimated “like, 2 miles, maybe,” and said the alternate space would allow students to catch up on clinical training while she readies a new permanent facility. Board members expressed sympathy and asked no additional substantive questions.
A board member moved to approve the request to grant Miss Murphy a temporary instructional location; another member seconded the motion, and the approval passed by voice vote with all members saying “aye.” The board did not record a roll-call tally beyond the unanimous voice approval.
Following the vote, participants exchanged contact information to assist students with scheduling board exams and other logistics. The board’s staff will note the temporary location approval in the meeting record; no follow-up motion or conditions were recorded on the transcript.
The meeting then moved on to a separate agenda item about exam content.
