Transportation committee approves multiple contracts, BNSF fencing agreement and local match funding

Chair (Transportation Committee) moved approval of a series of items including: a $1,200,000 contract with McCullough Equipment to provide tractor mowers for maintenance districts; a $3,000,000 improvement resolution to fund a preliminary engineering study for the Old Plank Road Trail extension; a $2,000,000 traffic engineering services contract for countywide traffic counts and design support; and contract amendments for construction management on Old Orchard Road (increase of $2,700,000 with BLA Inc.) and 175th Street (increase of $2,400,000 with RM Chen & Associates).
Staff also presented a $2,000,000 contract with Jacobs Engineering for traffic engineering services and a $2,600,000 contract with Civiltech Engineering to study Old Plank Road Phase 1. The committee approved a $3,000,000 intergovernmental agreement with BNSF Railway Company to lead construction of right‑of‑way fencing to fill gaps between Willow Spring Road and Ridgeland Avenue and along rail lines adjacent to Berwyn, Riverside, Brookfield and LaGrange. An associated $870,000 improvement resolution was described as the local match for the West Cook Veil safety improvement project. Several contracts were noted as meeting a 35% MWBE goal.
"This contract will provide for four maintenance bureau districts this new tractor mower to replace existing units at the end of their life's usefulness," the chair read when describing the McCullough Equipment contract.
Commissioner Anaya moved approval of the minutes and the package of items; the motion was seconded (Commissioner Aguilar seconded the minutes; the items were seconded on the floor) and the chair called for the voice vote. Members voted 'Aye' and the motions carried; one member asked to be recorded as voting 'present' for item 260341. With no further business the committee adjourned.
Next steps: staff will proceed with contract execution and intergovernmental agreements per procurement authority; the agenda listed project scopes and funding but did not specify implementation timelines in committee remarks.
