Council reads zoning item for 2911 North 5 Mile Road and a major city records code rewrite on first reading

Boise City Council read two ordinances by number and title on first reading and filed them for the second-reading calendar during its Feb. 24 meeting.

The clerk read ORD-4-26, a rezoning request (CAR 25-18) to change the zoning classification of property at 2911 North 5 Mile Road from R-1C (residential traditional) to R-2 (residential compact), and provided the ordinance’s stated purpose in section one. The item was placed on the calendar for a second reading; no substantive debate was recorded at first reading.

The council also heard ORD-5-26, which revises Boise City Code title 1, chapter 14 to rename the chapter “City Records and Archives,” amend and add definitions, add references to historic records and artifacts, establish the city archives, clarify roles and responsibilities for the city clerk and the city archivist, set responsibilities for department records coordinators and all city employees, update standards for photographic and digital records, and clarify access to city records and associated fees. The ordinance removes redundant language that repeats provisions of the Idaho Public Records Act and renumbers and reorders sections accordingly.

Because these were read on first reading and filed for the second-reading calendar, no final votes or enactments occurred during this meeting. The ordinances will return to council for the required second reading and any subsequent votes or hearings.

What’s next: both ORD-4-26 and ORD-5-26 are scheduled for additional consideration at the council’s second-reading calendar.
