The Planning & Zoning Board recommended Michael Hartman to the City Council for appointment after members heard from Hartman and discussed his experience.
Hartman told the board that he and his family have strong ties to the area: "We've lived here since 2019 in the city, but our involvement with Cape Canaveral goes back to 1989," he said, summarizing decades of local involvement and private-sector experience. Board members responded positively to his background and qualifications.
Chair Lamar Russell asked for a motion to recommend Hartman; a member moved and another seconded. Clerk Renee called the roll and the board voted to recommend Hartman to the City Council. Staff noted Hartman's council hearing is on the tentative agenda for Oct. 21.
The recommendation is advisory: the City Council will make the final appointment. The board encouraged Hartman to attend council to answer any questions the council might have.
