Mifflin County commissioners on March 3 adopted a proclamation designating March 2026 as American Red Cross Month and praised the organization’s local recent activity.
James McHale, who identified himself as a member of the Red Cross committee for service to the armed forces, briefed the board on local Red Cross operations. McHale said the Red Cross responded to nine disaster events that supported 28 individuals since July 2025, deployed 41 volunteers in the county, provided 15 instances of disaster health and mental‑health services, installed 92 smoke alarms around the county, and collected almost 800 units of blood at 28 blood drives.
"We responded to 9 disaster events supporting 28 individuals since July 2025...Almost 800 units of blood collected at 28 different blood drives," McHale said. He encouraged residents to reach out to the local Red Cross for smoke alarms and said he could provide informational packets for posting on the courthouse bulletin board.
The board moved and approved the proclamation by voice vote. The chair encouraged residents to support the Red Cross's humanitarian mission locally; no further action was required by the board.
