A staff member presenting the calendar said the schedule is intended to ensure departments, boards and commissions meet consistent submission deadlines and to allow focused workshop sessions. The staff member outlined key dates: department budgets are due to administration on May 15; boards and commissions budgets are due on May 29; the council plans to "follow the budget" on June 26; and formal adoption is expected in September, typically at the first or second meeting.
The staff member also said the city plans to hold two-hour workshop sessions on off-days (Tuesdays not already used for council meetings) so staff and boards have time for targeted discussion without crowding regular council meetings. Council members discussed the schedule, noted a possible need for additional meetings if major cuts are necessary, and flagged a potential conflict for one councilor on June 16.
Council member Jeffrey moved to approve the proposed budget schedule and calendar; the motion was seconded and the council voted to adopt the calendar. The council did not record any amendments to the schedule during the meeting.
Staff said they will finalize the calendar and distribute it to boards and commissions; the calendar adoption creates the framework for upcoming departmental submissions, workshops and the June review session.
