Mario Green, the coach's brother, thanked the commission for the recognition and called the naming "a great honor for you guys to even consider this tribute to my brother."
The resolution text in the meeting record recognized the coach's record of team championships and community service and cited the twentieth anniversary of his passing. After community testimony, a commissioner moved to adopt the resolution and the commission approved it by roll call.
