District finance staff presented the proposed 2024 property tax levy (for taxes payable in 2025) at the Sept. 23 board meeting and the board authorized the district to adopt the maximum recommended levy for certification purposes.
Staff told the board the proposed levy would fund the district’s fiscal-year 2026 operations and that the Minnesota Department of Education and Dakota County will complete final calculations and communications to taxpayers. Staff said the levy amount is calculated using referendum market value and adjusted net tax capacity components and reported a proposed levy base of just over $155,000,000 in the presentation; staff emphasized the December final certification will provide exact taxpayer impacts and that the district will hold its statutorily required truth‑in‑taxation hearing in December.
The board approved the recommended levy on a roll-call vote with the four voting members recorded as voting yes. District staff said the proposed adoption tonight enables county and state offices to apply finalized data points before returning a certified levy in December.
What’s next: the district will publish final taxpayer impact figures after MDE and county calculations and hold the truth‑in‑taxation hearing at the December board meeting where taxpayers can comment on the certified levy.
