County accepts $12,000 Healing Illinois grant for gun-violence-prevention mural in North Chicago

The committee approved a joint resolution authorizing acceptance and execution of a $12,000 Healing Illinois Grant to the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office through the Lake County YWCA to fund a gun-violence-prevention mural in North Chicago.
Jill, a State’s Attorney's Office representative, said the mural will be placed at the Foss Park Viaduct and is slated for completion in June for gun-violence-awareness month; community members impacted by gun violence are invited to participate. Jill said the location was chosen by the North Chicago Police Department and confirmed there will be an interactive element for the community.
Committee members asked about community participation and design. Staff indicated there will be interactive components and community involvement; the motion was moved, seconded and passed by voice vote.
The committee did not add conditions to the grant acceptance at the meeting. Staff said specifics about the design and participation would be determined in subsequent implementation steps.
