Lisa Wolf introduced the item and said the grant is new to the county. James Edwards, director of juvenile facilities, told the committee the award will pay a local artist to produce renderings and that the project will solicit input from residents, the chief judge and other stakeholders. "The plan is to have one in the cafe, which is also used for visitation, as well as in the gym on both sides," Edwards said, and the work is intended to support healing and engagement.
Committee members praised the idea as participatory and potentially therapeutic for youth in the facility. The motion was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote with no recorded opposition. The committee recorded no further conditions regarding the mural's design process at the meeting.
