Elmsford officials praise snow response, track storm costs and EMS activity

A police department official said the department was ‘‘very busy, especially with our snow,’’ describing officers helping with traffic and engaging school-resource officers in outreach while responding to weather-related incidents. The official said officers assisted when a teacher fell in a classroom, and noted officers' participation in community fitness events with students.
Fire and EMS statistics were presented: the fire department responded to 57 calls in February and EMS responded to 71 calls, officials said, and "all of these calls were covered." Officials added that no mutual aid was needed for Elmsford, while noting that 16 of the 71 EMS calls were mutual aid Elmsford provided to other agencies.
Regarding storm finances, a committee member said the village is "hoping that we will get reimbursement through an emergency declaration from Westchester County and from the state and from the feds." The same committee member said the village is tracking invoices and expects to pursue recovery of storm-related expenses.
The EMS chief thanked the police department and highway crews for clearing roads and supporting emergency responses, saying, "thank you and once again, reconnect the police department for working with EMS so closely. We have had some of the seniors call late, and without the help and support of the police department there... our guys can easy their job." (Quote shown as spoken in the meeting.)
Next steps: staff will continue tracking storm-related costs for possible reimbursement and will return with documentation as required for county, state or federal claims.
