HOLYOKE — The Ordinance Committee voted unanimously on Tuesday to amend the municipal code definition of "motorized scooters" so the local definition references the state statutory definitions in MGL chapter 90.
Chair Meg McGrath Smith read the amendment into the record, saying the change "creates a reference back to the state definition," and members agreed the city should remain aligned with state law as the statute evolves. Councilor Telheimer said the change aligns with recent work in the public‑safety committee.
The committee approved the language and recommended it to full council; a roll‑call vote recorded unanimous support from the sitting committee members present.
Vote: Roll call in committee (yes: Telheimer, Rivera, Panitch, McGrath Smith). The committee will forward its recommendation to the full City Council for final action.
