County staff reports progress on comprehensive plan and 'Advancing Grundy' initiative; electronic permitting planned

The Development Director updated the Grundy County Land Use Committee on progress toward a county comprehensive plan and the Advancing Grundy initiative.
Staff said the public‑engagement phase is complete, all community surveys are closed and yielded a substantial response; the director cited "upwards of 2,500" survey responses and said Advancing Grundy programming drew about 1,200 participants. A first visioning session on Feb. 24 moved the effort from information gathering into framework‑shaping. One remaining municipal stakeholder engagement is scheduled for March to align local municipal plans with the county comprehensive plan.
The director also highlighted Advancing Grundy's one‑year update, which drew more than 100 local leaders and participants and included stakeholder study trips to the East Coast to study nuclear power operations and decommissioning as part of resilience planning. Staff said they are working on operational continuity and modernization efforts — including a planned electronic permitting system to streamline application submittals for residents and developers — and expect to present transition structure and implementation details at upcoming meetings.
