The Grundy County Board approved two new positions in the assessor's office — a field appraiser coordinator and a property tax coordinator — following a presentation about office deficiencies and recommendations from a contracted consultant. Mary Anne (speaker S6) said the consultant, Stephanie Kennedy, reviewed department workflow and recommended structural changes; the personnel and tax committees gave favorable recommendations and the finance committee reviewed funding sources.
Mary Anne described the two roles as working positions that will coordinate the township appraisers' field work with the assessor's office and handle exemptions, splits and related tasks. She said the positions are intended to stabilize the office and provide training and overlap so the office can meet professional standards. A board member pointed to listed base pay ranges of $50,000–$60,000 and cautioned the fully loaded employer cost with benefits could raise the total annual cost closer to about $80,000 per position; presenters acknowledged benefit costs and said the county can fund the positions for the current year and then include them in the next budget.
The board voted to approve both positions during the meeting. Chair (S1) recorded motions and seconds for each item and the motions passed by voice vote.
Next steps: personnel will proceed with recruitment and county finance will implement the funding plan to integrate the positions into next year's budget.
