Board previews CTE building drawings, schedules bids and K–8 kitchen renovation

Director Miss Monroe showed board members printed drawings of a proposed new career and technical education (CTE) building for Clay County High School and asked the board to review them and raise any concerns.

"This is the, the drawing for the new CTE building at Clay County High School," Miss Monroe said, and asked members to direct questions to her or staff; she said staff hopes to receive bids by the July meeting.

Administrative staff (Ashley) said the architect needs a green light to proceed with finalized plans and that the board prefers to let bidders supply cost amounts rather than publicly state the district's available funds. Ashley told the board she believes there are sufficient funds to build the proposed structure but recommended allowing vendors to propose costs.

Miss Monroe also reported the K–8 kitchen renovation is scheduled to begin the Monday after school ends and reminded the board of upcoming events including graduation on Friday, May 17 at 7 p.m., summer camp plans, and ongoing staff training on NextGen payroll.

Why it matters: approving drawings and authorizing the architect to finalize plans are early, but necessary, steps before soliciting construction bids and awarding contracts. The timeline the director outlined would put bid responses on the board's July agenda for further action.

Next steps: staff will return with bid results for the board to review at upcoming meetings and will proceed with the planned K–8 renovation once school is out.
