Shenandoah City Council on Wednesday approved change order No. 3 for the Shenandoah Veterans Point at Vision Park to add security cameras and associated electrical runs for monument and flagpole lighting.
Staff described the work as adding camera piers, electrical stub‑outs and power for the monument and flagpole lighting. Project staff said the change order increases costs beyond the early $7.4 million figure discussed in prior meetings, but the council previously authorized $8.8 million for the project and the current change order remains within that funded amount.
Project staff told the council that most of the major battered walls are in place and the remaining pours and pier work were expected to be completed the following day, allowing crews to begin flat work. "They are still on target to finish by Veterans Day," staff said.
Council moved and approved the change order by voice vote. Staff said they will continue construction oversight and return with any future change orders or budget impacts that exceed available funding.
Next steps: contractor to complete pours, cure sections, backfill and proceed with flat work; staff will continue to monitor schedule and costs and report updates to the council.
