Shenandoah council approves interlocal amendment adding about $1.135 million in ARPA funds for Tamina West utilities project

The Shenandoah City Council approved an amendment to its interlocal agreement with Montgomery County that adds about $1,135,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to the Tamina West Water and Sanitary Utilities Project, the council voted Dec. 18.

Lisa, a staff speaker who presented the amendment to the mayor and council, said Montgomery County officials had decided to reallocate “about 1,135,000” in remaining ARPA dollars toward the project and that the county's commissioners court approved the allocation at its recent meeting. The amendment is the first to the interlocal agreement between Montgomery County and the City of Shenandoah to include that additional funding.

The mayor moved to approve the amendment; Councilman Bridal made the motion and Councilman Pollard seconded. Council members voiced their approval and the mayor stated the motion carried. Lisa said the county must sign the amendment and return it to the city before it is finalized.

The amendment is intended to secure county ARPA funding to advance water and sanitary infrastructure in the Tamina West project area. The council discussed the amendment briefly in open session after an executive session on the same project; the mayor reported that the council returned from executive session at 5:33 p.m. and that no action resulted from the closed discussions.

The council did not provide a roll-call vote or a numerical tally in the minutes; the approval was recorded as a voice vote with the motion carrying. The county's final execution of the amendment is the next procedural step.
