Summary
The committee recommended reporting out three Enterprise Services/Honolulu Zoo gift resolutions: travel for accreditation, a donated trackless train valued at $8,300, and pumps/UV water sterilization for gharial exhibits valued at $52,000, after a presentation by Director Dita Holifield on accreditation and exhibit care.
Chair Tolba grouped three resolutions supporting the Department of Enterprise Services and the Honolulu Zoo and invited Director Dita Holifield to present. Holifield said the zoo will travel for a five‑year accreditation review and that gifts from the Honolulu Zoo Society support staff participation, visitor amenities and animal care.
Holifield described the donated trackless train as a family amenity that "is just gonna be a piece of the added value that we're gonna be able so when you come to the zoo, there's lots to do, especially for the younger Keiki." She also described plans to install pumps, filters and a UV water‑sterilization system for the gharial exhibit (the gharial is a long‑nosed alligator‑type species) and said such upgrades support animal safety and care.
The committee recommended reporting Resolution 26‑41 (registration and travel valued at $3,500), Resolution 26‑48 (donated pre‑owned trackless train valued at $8,300) and Resolution 26‑49 (installation valued at $52,000) out for adoption; there were no objections and the chair ordered them reported out by unanimous consent. Director Holifield said the gifts also support the city’s effort to secure national accreditation and to improve visitor offerings.
Next steps: the resolutions will proceed to the full council for final action.
