Knox County approves SRO contract with East Knox and two county contractor payments

A staff member said a resolution for a school resource officer contract with East Knox School District for the 2025–26 school year is ready for the board's signature. The staff member said the district's share for the first officer is $33,500; East Knox has requested a second SRO and the district portion for that second position would not exceed $70,000 for 2025–26. "This is for the 25–26 school year in the amount of $33,500," the staff member said. The contract has been signed by the school board, superintendent and sheriff and was presented for signature by the commissioners.
The board then considered contractor payment applications for county engineer projects. Staff presented an application from McConnell Contracting for $202,330 (materials including box beams) and a second request for Griffin Pavement for $80,990.40 related to pavement spraying. Commissioners moved and seconded approval for the items and the motions were adopted; minutes record motions and seconds but no roll-call tally was recorded on the transcript.
Commissioners discussed cost-sharing arrangements and noted the county provides the officer, vehicle and equipment for the SRO while the school covers the district portion quoted by staff. The resolutions and payment approvals were presented as routine fiscal items and signed as appropriate.
