Summary
Courtney reported increased wellness participation, upcoming open‑enrollment meetings, Aflac supplemental benefits for 2026 and active hiring efforts across county departments, including transit driver recruitment and on‑site defensive‑driving training.
Courtney delivered the county’s human resources report, describing recent training, recruiting and benefits work and setting dates for open enrollment and HR training events.
She said she and Andrea Sellers attended a two‑day ADA boot camp to help apply Americans with Disabilities Act guidance in workplace practice, and that the county will attend career fairs and CareerQuest outreach to attract students and applicants. “Tomorrow is the CareerQuest event at Mount Vernon High School Energy Fieldhouse,” she said, noting outreach to several thousand students.
Courtney outlined benefits and enrollment changes: CORSA will run annual HR training on Oct. 23; supplemental Aflac benefits will be available to staff in 2026 with materials at upcoming open‑enrollment meetings on Oct. 14–15; and benefits counselors will be on site to assist employees. She explained the county is updating its cafeteria plan documents to allow pretax/after‑tax options for some supplemental plans.
Wellness participation rose to 88 employees this year from 54 last year, Courtney said, and SEPCO rewards are available to employees who complete specified activities. “The 88 this year, we had 54 last year,” she said, framing it as a 63% increase.
On recruitment, Courtney said the county is actively hiring: Knox County Transit seeks CDL and non‑CDL drivers, the engineer’s office needs highway workers and mechanics, the jail needs a cook, and other openings are posted on the county website and widely advertised.
Courtney closed by reminding commissioners of defensive driving training on Oct. 17 and the county health fair date and encouraged continued staff outreach on benefits and wellness.
