District officials reported middle-of-year universal screening results showing K–2 literacy gains and math growth: combined early childhood proficiency at 77% midyear toward an 83% end-of-year goal, with kindergarten at 71%, first grade 65% and second grade 74% at or above benchmark.
Boerne ISD presented middle-of-year assessment results to the board on Feb. 23, showing gains in early literacy and math that the district said leave it on track to meet its end-of-year goals.
Assessment lead Miss Flores reviewed universal screeners used by the district (Circle for Pre-K, mCLASS/DIBELS for K–2, MAP for math) and presented midyear cohort percentages: kindergarten 71% at or above benchmark, first grade 65%, and second grade 74%. Combining reading and math screener results for K–2 yielded a district midyear early-childhood proficiency rate of 77%, up from the beginning of year and short of the district’s 83% end-of-year target but on a trajectory the presenter characterized as “on track.”
Flores and trustees discussed metric differences across grade levels and assessment tools; trustees asked for clarification about which expectations are grade-level or midyear indicators. The presenter said instructional adjustments and targeted interventions are continuing for students not yet at benchmark and that staff will continue to monitor progress toward the year-end goal.
Trustees thanked the team for the data and for the district’s continued focus on data-informed instruction and shared plans to review the demographers’ report at the March budget meeting.
