District CTE leaders and students presented program growth: 12 career clusters, 19 programs of study, a 19% increase in industry-certification attainment and expansion of the education-and-training pathway from 16 to 36 students; students described supervised agricultural experiences and workplace placements.
Boerne ISD trustees heard a Career and Technical Education (CTE) update Feb. 23 showing program expansion and improved credential attainment, followed by student presentations from Boerne and Champion High School FFA chapters.
CTE presenter Heather Willis said BISD offers 12 career clusters and 19 programs of study, and reported 682 external workplace placements this year and a 19% increase in student industry-certification attainment. Willis noted Air Force Junior ROTC has been classified as part of CTE under recent legislation and the district is preparing to align credentialing measures (the ASVAB was mentioned as a projected credentialing option for JROTC).
Students and FFA representatives described hands-on learning opportunities, supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs), school-based enterprise operations such as floral shops and real-world projects including hydroponics and nitrogen-supplement products. FFA officers emphasized leadership, public-speaking and career-ready skills developed through contests, shows and community partnerships; trustees praised the students’ presentations and pledged continued board support.
Trustees asked clarifying questions about credential lists, program enrollment and how state accountability changes may affect funding and program weighting; CTE staff said they are reviewing the state’s updated certification lists and will work with teachers and industry partners to align offerings.
