At its Feb. 26 meeting the Springfield School District board approved a consent agenda, personnel actions, first reading of the 2026–27 calendar, and multiple capital projects funded by capital-projects and bond-proceeds accounts; most motions passed unanimously, while the consent agenda vote was recorded in the transcript as 9-2-0.
The Springfield School District Board of School Directors approved a package of routine motions on Feb. 26, including the consent agenda, personnel actions, a first reading of the 2026–27 district calendar and several capital-project contracts funded from the district’s capital projects and bond-proceeds accounts.
The consent agenda was moved by Miss Guy and seconded; the chair announced the vote result in the transcript as “motion carries 9 2 0.” The personnel report — which listed five certified retirements, one noncertified retirement, one noncertified resignation, employment of two noncertified staff members and one request for special medical leave — was approved by voice vote and recorded as carrying 9 to 0.
Board members voted to approve facility and procurement items on the agenda, including: - Franklin Flooring Inc. proposal #21558 for Sable Elementary School music room and lobby flooring — $16,661 (funded from capital projects and bond proceeds). - Clipper Pipe & Service Inc. to remove and install two hot-water heater units at ETR Middle School — $81,000 (completion anticipated in 2026 before the 2026–27 school year). - Jim Miller Roofing for Sable Elementary roof recovery — $520,000 (work during 2026; funded from capital projects and bond proceeds). - Roof Systems Consultants for construction administration for the Sable roof project — $27,000 (to run concurrently with roofing work). - Service Life Extension Program (SLEP) site and system evaluations (architectural, mechanical/electrical/plumbing, site work, exterior envelope) by Blackley Hayes & Snyder Hoffman and roof-systems analysis by Roof Systems Consultants — total $62,500 (funded from capital projects and bond proceeds).
Dr. Hatton explained the Sable flooring replacement was intended to keep the building in line with the district’s SLEP planning and to address wear and age. ‘‘The replacement of the floor at Sable Music Room and lobby is done in an effort to stay in accordance with our SLEP plan,’’ he said.
The board also nominated and reappointed Bob Hornberger as Springfield’s representative to the Delaware County Intermediate Unit board for a term running July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2029; that nomination carried 9 to 0.
Most of the capital and professional-services contracts are funded from the district’s capital projects and bond proceeds accounts and include completion timelines aimed to finish before the 2026–27 school year.
