Judicial committee advances four-year reappointment for judicial commissioner

The Wilson County judicial committee discussed the reappointment of the county’s judicial commissioner and moved to set the appointment at four years after judges offered endorsements and members argued the longer term would provide stability.

Chair opened the item by asking for judicial input on the reappointment of Mr. Corrigan. Judge Tatum told the committee that Judge Lee called earlier with a “wholehearted endorsement.” Judge Hagan said the office was “night and day” improved compared with a year ago, saying earlier problems with issuance of warrants and other case-processing issues appear to have subsided.

A committee member moved to reappoint the director and a subsequent amendment to extend the appointment to four years was seconded. Committee members said a longer term would preserve stability in the office; one member urged that a one-year appointment could undermine continuity. The Chair said that, if the county commission appoints the director, the office should be supported with normal pay raises and any resources the director requests.
