Business officials told the board a $198,000 revenue adjustment tied to the governor’s proposal and PASBO guidance and a $132,000 North Montco fee increase contribute to a preliminary 6.14% budget increase; the district plans preliminary approval in May and final adoption in June.
Finance director Jim Weaver presented a budget update that reflected guidance tied to the governor’s budget and PASBO recommendations, adding roughly $198,000 to the district’s revenue presentation and showing an overall preliminary expenditure increase of 6.14.
Weaver said the district combined three smaller state-increment items (ESB, Ready-to-Learn grant and special-education subsidies) when modeling revenues, following PASBO practice. He also reported a $132,000 increase in the fee to attend the North Montco Technical Career Center and said those adjustments, combined with other factors, produced a slide showing a $198,000 net increase to revenues for the presentation.
"So overall, revenues were increased by a $198,000," Weaver told the board. He added that when expenditures are considered, the district’s plan would use roughly $2.3 million of fund balance to balance the preliminary budget if current assumptions hold.
Weaver also reported results from a second cost estimate for Buxtemont showing a 14.85% increase and said a third estimate is expected in May; that will help shape April planning. He flagged the district’s ongoing E-rate application process and said the agenda includes a placeholder for the E-rate request.
Board members asked few substantive questions during the presentation. Weaver said the district expects to present a preliminary budget approval in May with final adoption planned for June and reiterated that staffing impacts may change depending on the outcome of the early-retirement incentive and enrollment projections.
No formal budget vote occurred at the meeting; the board will consider formal budget motions in coming weeks.
