Public commenters press district on Nitra Elementary cost, concessions and driveway access

At the Manheim Township School Board meeting public commenters urged fiscal caution on the proposed Nitra Elementary project and raised operational concerns tied to stadium and campus planning.

Mark Sellers, who identified himself during the public‑comment period, criticized the district's handling of large projects and questioned the budgeting for Nitra Elementary. "You approved the $63,600,000 project in a month," Sellers said, arguing the district should rely on competitive bidding and called into question architect and contingency fees tied to construction cost increases.

Kim Romano urged the district to reconsider two small concession stands on the new home side, saying staffing constraints make multiple small booths impractical and that restroom count and placement need attention during high‑attendance events. Romano also suggested more accessible parking closer to Journey Field.

Another resident recommended widening Landis Run's driveway so traffic can flow in and out more efficiently and praised board member Cindy Lam for organizing a large community Lunar New Year event that drew broad participation.

The board did not engage in debate during the public comment period but will receive comments submitted through the district's process; the meeting record includes the district email campusmasterplan@mtwp.net as the channel the architects and staff will use to gather community feedback.
