Summary
At its regular meeting the Daniels Planning Commission elected Gary Waite chair, continued several zone-change and development items for further work, recommended approval of a small automotive business license, and approved a residential building permit and a sign application; the commission also received a wildfire-interface briefing and conducted required open-meetings training.
The Daniels Planning Commission opened the meeting, administered oaths to new and returning members and held elections for 2026 officers. The commission elected Gary Waite as chair by motion and majority vote. A nomination for vice chair (Byron Warner) also passed after a roll-call vote.
On project business the commission moved several agenda items to later hearings. Speaker 9 made a motion to continue the 1 Shot LLC business-license application to the March 18 meeting pending a written business plan that addresses code 8.21 and hours of operation; the motion carried. The commission recommended approval of Q Boyz's application for an at-home automotive service with conditions limiting fluid storage, hours and requiring a written operations plan. The commission approved the Phelps residential building permit and a roof-sign application submitted by Single Sign Services for Dan Storch, each by motion and majority vote.
The commission received a briefing on the state's draft wildland-urban-interface map and guidance and was advised the town may elect to adopt a local boundary (the staff suggestion was Daniels Creek) for wildfire planning and, possibly, fee assessment tied to risk categories. Commissioners asked staff to monitor state legislation and to consider piggybacking on county updates or adopting local amendments later.
Administrative items: commissioners introduced Jolene Munford as the incoming planning secretary, approved draft minutes from December, and received open-meetings training materials required by statute. The meeting adjourned after motions to carry various continuances and approvals.
