Treasurer reports: $5,000 donation, appeal resolutions and budget adjustments approved

The Bedford District treasurer presented the board with several financial items on March 5, including a $5,000 donation and recommended appeal resolutions tied to last year’s real-estate sales, and the board approved items 6.01 through 6.07 as a block.

The treasurer told the board there was a $5,000 grant from the Synthamer Foundation earmarked for equipment supporting PBIS and classroom needs in ELA and math. "We have the following donation of $5,000 grant from Synthamer Foundation," the treasurer reported. The board voted to accept the treasurer's report and associated items as a package by roll call (recorded as 5–0).

Items 6.03–6.05 were presented as appeal resolutions recommended by Mr. Tom Conzer. The treasurer said the appeals concern sales of real-estate property from the prior year whose recorded values did not reflect sale value; Mr. Conzer was absent due to illness.

On item 6.06 the treasurer explained that the tax-rate resolution comes from the county board of commissioners and that the district must adopt and return the resolution annually. The treasurer also outlined item 6.07, permanent appropriations and adjustments to spend federal grant carryover funds and to reflect the five-year forecast.

Board members asked for clarification about the timing for appeals and noted that appeals have a short window (the treasurer said she believed the deadline is March 20, as an approximate reference). On negotiations, the treasurer said the district shared a proposal with teachers the previous Tuesday but did not discuss details in public.

The board approved the treasurer's items 6.01–6.07 in a single motion; the roll-call vote was recorded as 5–0. The treasurer's report will feed into next steps for budgeting and appeals procedures.
