Summary
County administrators and the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano reported a combined $123,160 raised in the 2025 CountyCare holiday food fight; Solano employees contributed $55,755 and retained the competition’s 'Big Apple' trophy for a sixth straight year.
Solano County officials on March 3 presented results of the 2025 CountyCare holiday food fight and recognized employees for fundraising efforts that benefit local families facing food insecurity.
Matthew Davis of the county administrator’s office told the Board that the friendly competition with Contra Costa County raised a combined $123,160, of which Solano County employees and their supporters contributed $55,755. Don Manley and Darwin Bozen of the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano described the local need and said the Food Bank serves roughly 27,000 households a month in Solano County, equating to a substantial number of meals distributed.
Staff from the county administrator’s office—named by Davis as campaign leads Melinda Sandy, Amy Johnson and Emily Shepherd—were thanked and recognized at the meeting. Speakers emphasized that while the contest is friendly, the donations directly support local families and that the county’s employees have donated nearly $845,000 to the drive since it began; combined totals with Contra Costa exceed $2.7 million since the competition’s start.
Officials brought award trophies and took photographs with the board and Food Bank representatives. The presentation underscored county partnerships with local businesses and internal departments that organized events and fundraisers to support the drive.
The board did not take formal action; the item was a presentation and recognition of the campaign’s results.
