Dearborn board approves bundled contracts and personnel items; designates Wayne County voting representative
Summary

The consent motion was moved and seconded during the meeting and carried in a roll call vote in which trustees recorded assent. The clerk conducted the roll call and trustees present answered in the affirmative.
The agenda included contract awards to vendors listed in the agenda packet, such as Cognia, Quaver Ed, Carnegie Learning and ParentSquare, construction and services awards that include Spence Brothers, Best Asphalt and Allied Construction Services, multiple change orders, noninstructional and instructional personnel items and a resolution calling for full, permanent funding of IDEA.
Trustees also raised a question about item 18, the ParentSquare contract. A trustee asked whether the new platform’s cost would be offset by eliminating the district’s current platform. A district staff member said that InTouch currently costs about "a dollar a student," and that savings would not be strictly one-to-one because the district also uses a smaller newsletter platform and other communications tools.
Separately, the board considered item 29, which asked the board to designate a representative and an alternate to cast the board’s vote for two candidates. The board moved to designate Trustee Hussein Barry as the district’s representative and Trustee Mary Petlichkoff as the alternate and directed the representative to cast the board’s vote for candidates James Barry and Linda Jackson. The designation passed in a roll call vote.
The superintendent introduced two personnel appointments from the agenda: Noor Charara, confirmed as an assistant principal, thanked the board and principals she has worked with; and David Holly was introduced and welcomed as the new athletic director at Dearborn High School.
The board also voted to extend the meeting for 15 minutes to complete remaining business. The meeting adjourned after the scheduled items and announcements.
