Hamilton County commissioners approve minutes, proclaim May 2025 Building Safety Month

The Hamilton County Board of County Commissioners approved the minutes of its previous meeting and read a proclamation declaring May 2025 as Building Safety Month at the board's April 29 regular session.

Commissioner Denise Driehaus moved to approve the minutes; after a second, the three commissioners present—Driehaus, Stephanie Sumro Dumas and Alicia Reese—voted yes. The board then read a proclamation that ‘‘does hereby proclaim May 2025 as Building Safety Month in all of Hamilton County,’’ noting the county's interest in building resilience and the role of local code officials.

The proclamation cites the International Code Council, a nonprofit that brings together local, state and federal officials to develop building codes, and identifies "Game On" as the theme for Building Safety Month 2025. A planning and development department representative thanked the commissioners and outlined a weekly approach: an "opening day" week, a "get involved" week, a "build your defense" week and a "starting lineup" week that would highlight the roles of building officials and other professionals.

"Building safety month is part of our partnership with the ICC," the planning official said. "This year's theme of Building Safety Month is 'Game On.' Build your offense, get involved; build your defense to protect your property and your buildings."

The board introduced James Noyes and Mike Stalen from the planning and development department at the start of the proclamation. No additional formal votes or actions on ordinances, contracts or budgets were recorded in the transcript before the meeting moved on to scheduled presentations.

The commissioners proceeded to the presentations portion of the agenda after the proclamation and introductory remarks.
