Board approves bargaining agreements, Micron grant, SRO contract and rejects CNS pool general‑construction bids

The board approved agreements with the North Syracuse teacher aide unit, the North Syracuse office personnel unit and the North Syracuse Academic Directors Association after the chair placed the motions before the body. The chair called the votes and indicated each motion passed unanimously.
The board acknowledged a gift from the American Federation of Teachers: a Micron grant of $29,982 to support the district’s advanced technology framework. The motion to acknowledge the gift was moved and seconded and carried by unanimous vote.
The board approved a resolution to create a teaching‑assistant position for Eleanor Elementary under the district’s 811 program and approved instructional, support and administrative personnel reports A, B and C as submitted.
On school safety, the board approved an intermunicipal agreement with Onondaga County for law‑enforcement security services (Onondaga County sheriff SROs) to provide school resource officers.
The board also passed a resolution to reject general‑construction bids for the CNS pool that exceeded budget. Superintendent Don Keegan explained the situation: “the general construction bid ... was much higher than we expected and kind of blew the budget,” and he said the district will work with architects and the construction manager to reduce costs, rebid in January and hopes to award in February. Keegan added the bid rejection will not delay the project schedule because foundation work was already underway.
Finally, the board voted unanimously to move into executive session to review one negotiation matter and six personnel matters and later adjourned.
The meeting included announcements of multiple staff retirements and an extended schedule for budget deliberations through April and May; no policy changes were adopted in the open session.
