The Sunset Beach council on July 14 approved a professional services agreement with Coastal Protection Engineering (CPE) for phase 1 of the Eastern Channel of Jinx Creek realignment, with the phase‑1 contract capped at $91,071.
Staff said five firms responded to RFQs and CPE ranked highest after review by town staff and Palm Cove representatives. The contract covers abbreviated scope work for Phase 1 to bring the project to the agencies for review and to determine viability.
Council also authorized establishing a capital project fund and discussed the project cost and funding sources as presented in the packet. Staff and the town attorney explained that Palm Cove must meet MOA conditions — including depositing up to 125% of projected contract cost into escrow — before the town will proceed with construction contracting. The council recorded a capital project ordinance recognizing the project and funding structure on the record.
Council members voted to approve the CPE task order and the capital project fund actions by voice vote.
