Rezoning approvals: Planning staff presented three rezoning requests in District 1 — roughly 2.104 acres at 334 Dover Bluff Road and two 0.86-acre parcels at Williams Place — each requested to change from Agricultural-Forestry to Single-Family Residential and recommended for approval by the planning commission. Commissioner [S7] moved to approve each rezoning; the board approved them by voice vote.
Public safety and procurement: The board approved a sheriff-requested security fence to add a layer of protection for judges and courthouse staff; funding was identified in the FY2026 jail and staffing budget. The board also authorized Camden County Fire Rescue to purchase two Braun Chief XL ambulances (SPLOST 9 tier 1), locking current pricing at $380,992 each with expected delivery in July 2028; staff noted the switch from diesel to gas chassis reduces anticipated engine-repair costs.
Appointments and contract: The board appointed Joshua Spruell to the St. Mary’s River Management Committee and reappointed Lauren Smith to the Camden County Library Board. The board unanimously approved a benefits-administration contract with MS Benefits / PES Benefits after an RFP and HR evaluation; staff said the contract will save approximately $2,000 versus the outgoing vendor.
