Kane County economic board approves $30,000 recommendation for Duck Creek trail stabilization

The Kane County Economic Development Board voted to recommend a $30,000 grant to support a trail erosion stabilization test area at Duck Creek and forwarded the funding recommendation to the county commission for final approval.

A presenter seeking project funds told the board: "So today we're requesting a grant for $30,000 that's going to accompany the $35,000 from the rec and finance department." The presenter said volunteers, businesses and in-kind heavy equipment have pledged support and that the money would fund structural engineering and other measures to make the project long lasting and compliant with state and county policies.

Board discussion confirmed additional match and leveraged funds. The presenter said the project would also draw on $5,000 each from two other grant programs and local donations. A board member moved to approve the $30,000 grant recommendation; another member seconded the motion. Chair-led voice voting produced a majority "Aye," and the motion passed. The board directed that the recommendation be forwarded to the county commission; staff noted the commission will consider the matter at its meeting tomorrow.

The vote was procedural and limited to recommending county funding; final disbursement is subject to the county commission's action. The presenter thanked the board for the support and said volunteers would continue to help implement the work once funding is secured.

The commission will take the recommendation up at its next meeting tomorrow, when final approval and any disbursement terms will be decided.
