Snohomish County Council cuts required Ethics Commission meetings to once a year
Summary
The Snohomish County Council voted 4-0 Feb. 4 to change county code so the Ethics Commission is required to meet at least once a year rather than twice; staff said the commission may still meet as needed to address complaints.
Snohomish County Council on Feb. 4 voted unanimously to reduce the minimum required meetings of the county's Ethics Commission from two per year to one, while retaining the panel's authority to convene more often when complaints arise.
Council staff Nicole Gourley told the council, "This ordinance would change the required meeting frequency for the ethics commission from a minimum of 2 every year to 1 every year." Gourley said the commission would still be able to meet as needed "when issues arise or there's valid complaints needing to be addressed by the entire body."
The council opened public testimony on the ordinance and received no speakers. A council member moved to approve ordinance 26-001; the motion was seconded and the council took a roll-call vote, approving the ordinance 4-0.
No amendments were recorded. The ordinance amends Snohomish County Code section 2.50.100 and will be reflected in the county code language once finalized. The council moved on to other agenda items after the vote.
