Advisory board accepts new 485-foot pedestrian bridge near 1st Americans Boulevard

Chris Russell, the project representative introduced to the board, presented the final report for the pedestrian bridge near 1st Americans Boulevard and the board approved final acceptance by motion. Russell said the bridge measures 485 feet end to end, includes four piers and a 20-foot-wide deck, and was coordinated with adjacent projects including Riversport and the Embark boat landing.
Russell summarized the schedule and construction milestones: a June 2024 kickoff, completion of the piers and pier caps by December 2024, final substantial completion in July 2025, a punch-list walk-through in August and a ribbon cutting in September 2025. He described aesthetic elements including patterned pier caps, ADA handrails, cable railing, pier medallions and color-changing lighting the public works department will control.
Russell said the initial bid was “just under $5,800,000,” and that three change orders and amendments brought the total contract value to “just over $6,700,000.” He also described coordination to space piers to accommodate Riversport’s future use.
"It's exciting times. We got to complete a project," Russell told the board as he concluded his presentation and opened for questions.
Board members asked about maintenance and banner poles; Russell and staff said public works would handle long‑term maintenance and coordination with parks for pole/banners in the Ocona area. The board approved final acceptance of the pedestrian bridge by motion.
