Representatives of the Michigan Military Heritage Museum in Jackson asked the appropriations subcommittee for $750,000 to expand exhibit and storage space at a site on the historic Camp Blair grounds.
Scott Gersh, who runs the museum, told the committee the expansion would add approximately 9,000 square feet to the existing 3,600 square‑foot building, allowing the museum to bring items out of storage, add interactive displays and create modest paid internship opportunities tied to local schools and at‑risk youth programs. Presenters said an adjacent lot has been prepared (drainage, parking and landscaping) and that demolition and site preparation work (phase 1) have been completed with local funds.
Committee members asked how the funds would be spent; Gersh said they would be used to erect the building addition and outfit exhibit and storage spaces. The presenters characterized the museum as a regional tourism draw that also preserves military history and offers student programming.
