Alex Kidd, manager for Neighborhood Services, briefed the council on the city’s opioid-education OD2 grant and related activities. Kidd said the grant totaled $20,000 (OD2) and supported production of bilingual brochures and a 36-page toolkit, eight short videos (with Spanish subtitles), and four in‑person workshops that drew 34 attendees in the most recent round.
Kidd said the materials will be distributed through coalition partners, clinics and community spaces and that 325 naloxone kits were distributed over the summer at events and tabling; attendees of recent workshops received naloxone and instruction on nasal naloxone use. Kidd also noted the grant allowed subsidized American Red Cross CPR/opioid training for community members and that training registration was open with confirmed attendees.
Council members asked how kits were distributed (tabling events, clinics, community events) and whether there were requirements; Kidd said distribution was at events and included brief instruction. Kidd also said the coalition is adopting a 'Communities That Care' evidence-based framework to focus prevention work and that the city purchased a three-year license to support the effort.
